Cobalt mining and child labor have gone hand-in-hand in Congo for decades. The Guardian reports that up to 35,000 children, some as young as six, are currently working in Congolese mines.
Determined to resolve the issue, Ford and IBM have launched a Blockchain operation, overseen by RCS Global, that will source cobalt from miners and factories verified to be running ethical operations.
