What Is a Decentralized Application?

Decentralized applications (Dapps) are traditional applications that run on decentralized systems. They run similar to the apps we use today but without a central authority. Instead of storing the data at one central system, the decentralized applications store the data on the decentralized systems (e.g., blockchain) where it gets distributed among several nodes eliminating the presence, and power, of a central authority.
